The Rampant Discourse Podcast: Episodes 14 and 15 – The First Democratic Presidential Debates of 2019

Last week we had the first democratic presidential debates of 2019 where 20 candidates, over 2 nights, answered questions regarding why they are best suited to unseat Donald Trump and become the next President of the United States. Join Andrew and Paul as they discuss the performances of each candidate and whether, post-debate, their stock is going up or their stock is going down. Here is part 1, where we discuss the first night’s debate (Booker, Castro, de Blasio, Delaney, Gabbard, Inslee, Klobuchar, O’Rourke, Ryan, Warren):

And here is part 2, where we discuss the second night’s debate (Biden, Bennet, Buttigieg, Gillibrand, Harris, Hickenlooper, Sanders, Swalwell, Williamson, Yang):

We hope you enjoy. Disagree with our takes? Please let us know in the comments below! We have a third podcast coming out later this week where we rank the 20 candidates in terms of likeliness to earn the democratic nomination, so keep an eye out for that. Thanks!

  1. I appear to have made yet another factual error in episode 1. I claimed Robert “Beto” O’Rourke had Hispanic heritage “on his mother’s side.” That seems to be incorrect. I based this statement off research I did during his senatorial race against Cruz, where I found what seemed to be evidence that he was both Irish American and Hispanic.

Additional research finds many groups claiming him to be “more” Hispanic than Cruz, but largely for ideological reasons, or his work with the community. There was no evidence to be found, this time, of actual genetic heritage.

I’ll use this as a reminder to talk less about things I know, and more about things I’m certain about.
